Project Description:

This project involves four case studies of the evolving relationship between the LIPs and municipal governments. The aim of the study is to document the LIP-municipal interactions and to establish their potential contribution to five CIC strategic objectives having to do with: (i) better long-term integration and enhanced social, political and civic engagement; (ii) better economic outcomes; (iii) improved planning and coordination; (iv) increased leverage to broaden support and share costs; and (v) enhanced program efficiency. The case studies are also expected to deepen the WCI’s insight into the factors that mediate local development and contribute to LIP effectiveness. The study is being conducted by local WCI researchers who are familiar with the LIPs in their communities. Interviews will be conducted with LIP coordinators, important members of the LIP Councils and key city officials. The analyses will be supported by other WCI studies including the project examining organizational indicators, the survey of community leaders and the study examining baseline indicators of welcome for the LIPs.
