Organizational Best Practices of Local Immigration Partnerships

An evaluation of promising organizational practices was conducted by analyzing 27 Local Immigration Partnership strategic plans in detail. Statistical results indicate that three organizational practices were particularly important. These were: having a broadly based and inclusive LIP council; ensuring active municipal involvement throughout the planning process; and establishing municipal leadership in the form of the city being a signatory to the LIP plan. This evaluation also proposes indicators that can serve as useful measures for future evaluations of LIP plans.

This series of reports describes the priorities of the Ontario Local Immigration Partnerships as assessed through analyses of 27 LIP strategic plans available in early 2011, and through a subsequent survey if the coordinators for all 45 Ontario LIPs. Following a description of the priorities that emerged in each of seven domains, the reports describe potential strategies and promising practices that may be used to address these priorities.

Local Immigration Partnership Conference

The 2012 Local Immigration Partnership Conference was held in Toronto from February 8-10. It brought together researchers, delegates from organizations and municipalities involved in delivery of the LIPs and government officials. The goals of the conference were to learn from research studies, to discuss challenges and strategies for action, and to obtain a better understanding of planned evaluations and assessment methods. The conference was jointly supported by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Ontario Region and the Welcoming Communities Initiative.
