Find an Expert
Find an Expert is designed to give users quick, efficient access to the WCI’s expertise and experts. This will be useful when looking for specialized or local knowledge, or when trying to identify experts for a conference or research project. The database includes academic researchers, community practitioners, service providers, and officials from federal, provincial, and municipal governments. As such, it provides a unique, easily searchable compendium of talent and knowledge with respect to migrants and minorities.
The Find an Expert search function gives users targeted access to the skills and knowledge possessed by members and partners of the WCI. Several search methods can be used:
- If you know the name of the person, typing letters into the Name search box will generate a list.
- If you do not have a particular individual in mind, you can search for expertise using one or more of the following parameters: (a) geographic location; (b) sector in which the person works; and (c) expertise. Clicking in the parameter boxes and making a selection from the menus that present themselves (multiple choices are permitted) will generate a list of names. Entries can be ‘deselected’ by clicking on the “x” beside the selection. When you have completed making your selections, simply click outside of the box.
- A more general search of the WCI’s expertise database is available through the Google search command at the top of the page.
A note of caution: Specifying a location eliminates adjacent communities which may be relevant.
Once a list has been generated, you can use the Sort buttons to array the list: alphabetically, by sector (for example, government experts) or by expertise (for example, economic development).
Once a primary list has been generated, additional information about members and partners can be obtained by clicking ‘Read More’ at the end of their description. This will produce a short biographical note and give you access to menus that offer more detailed information about their expertise, knowledge and accomplishments. Contact information is also provided.
